He was in search of riches and adventures, in 1519 he reached the coast and with his small army he went to battle with the several indigenous groups in the region of the coast, he commanded the recognition of the Cristian Church and the Spanish King. The Indians were defeated by the Spaniards. Later on Cortes founded a town call Villa Rica de la Vera Cruz, now known as Veracruz.
