He charged $12.48, with additional costs for shipping and handling. In order for a purchase to be made on NetMarket, the user had to use Unix software and Mosaic, a web browser that was made a year prior, in 1993. Transactions used a type of encryption known as PGP or Pretty Good Privacy.
