A barbecue is like a party in which people cook some food on a metal frame over a fire. People usually celebrate in the garden, and they cook there. So It is generally celebrated when the weather is good because people are outside cooking on a metal frame some meat, vegetables, etc. In South America "barbecue" is called "asado".
