Answer:

Deserted by his father when he was three, Ahmad turned to Islam at the age of eleven. He feels his faith threatened by the materialistic, hedonistic society he sees around him in New Jersey. Nobody succeeds in diverting the boy from what his religion calls the Straight Path; when he finds employment in a furniture store owned by a family of recently immigrated Lebanese, the threads of a plot gather around him.

The ever-surprising John Updike’s twenty-second novel is a brilliant contemporary fiction that will surely be counted as one of his most powerful. It tells of eighteen-year-old Ahmad Ashmawy Mulloy and his devotion to Allah and the words of the Holy Qur’an, as expounded to him by a local mosque’s imam.

The son of an Irish-American mother and an Egyptian father who disappeared when he was three, Ahmad turned to Islam at the age of eleven. He feels his faith threatened by the materialistic, hedonistic society he sees around him in the slumping factory town of New Prospect, in northern New Jersey. Neither the world-weary, depressed guidance counselor at Central High School, Jack Levy, nor Ahmad’s mischievously seductive black classmate, Joryleen Grant, succeeds in diverting the boy from what his religion calls the Straight Path. When he finds employment in a furniture store owned by a family of recently immigrated Lebanese, the threads of a plot gather around him, with reverberations that rouse the Department of Homeland Security.

But to quote the Qur’an: Of those who plot, God is the best.

Based on Thoreaus beliefs and cilvil Disobedience he mostly likely decided not to pay poll tax because
allochka39001 [22]

Answer:

B. He disagreed with the idea of it.

Explanation:

Henry David Thoreau's essay "Civil Disobedience" focuses on the importance of individualism and the need for an individual to prioritize his rights and concerns instead of what the law dictates. He also propounds the importance of following one's conscience and not blindly obey the government and their 'laws'.

And in this regard, he also refuses to pay the poll tax because he disagreed with the idea. This was because this tax that the government collects from the Americans is used to 'support' the Mexican war. So, if the people pay taxes, then this money is used to help the armies in the war, thus making the people indirect supporters of the war. And those who 'criticize' and condemn the war must make a point not to 'support' it by refusing to pay the taxes.  This is also his reason to not pay taxes as he disagreed with it.

In “Top if the Food Chain”, the event that happens first is that Geckos die from eating poisoned flies, so Cats die from eating the bodies of infected geckos. Besides, DDT is sprayed over the country, so there are species of wasp that eats caterpillars and killed them. This is the reason that villagers’ roofs collapse and are replaced with tin.

Debora [2.8K]
In the sestet, William Wordsworth addresses the octet (Where the problem has been stated) with a response that he'd rather exercise paganism because in that way he might feel less in gloomy about humanity's disrespect and loss of oneness with nature because he feels a sense of shared connection with nature again.
