They were betrayed of trust and their land was taken and destroyed. Their children taken from their parents and forced into residential schools which forced the tradition, language and culture out of them.

Explanation:

They natives were living on their land, and the British came and hung out with them you know, befriended traded all that fun stuff. Then the British said like "you know what I like this land, so let's just take it" so they planted their cross, built schools, and took the land and the children from them.

So this is why they were mad
