Answer:

The Civil Rights Act of 1866 declared all persons born in the United States to be citizens, "without distinction of race or color, or previous condition of slavery or involuntary servitude." Although President Andrew Johnson vetoed the legislation, that veto was overturned by the 39th United States Congress and the bill became law. The Civil Rights Act of 1866 was the nation's first civil rights law.

Who was responsible for leading the mormon exodus to the colony of new zion on the shore of the great salt lake?
xenn [34]
After the people of Illinois became too hostile for the Mormons to stay there any longer (and also, after their church's founder, Joseph Smith, was killed as a result of that violence), Brigham Young took over as leader of the Mormons and led the group out of Illinois and to the present-day state of Utah, where they established a colony on the shores of the Great Salt Lake called New Zion.
