Edgar Allan Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado" presents an excellent example of his stylistic originality through its mood and tone. From the opening sentences, Poe sets an anxious and suspenseful tone by right away pulling the reader into Montresor's vengeful obsession. This creates an air of tension as the story builds toward its climax, which Poe contrasts with satiric humor. He also sustains a mood of eerie foreboding throughout the story by using many overt symbols of death and decay.

How does the concept of flash-forward differ from foreshadowing?
Katena32 [7]
Both are similar to each other. However, foreshadowing hints at the possible outcomes in the future without any interruption in the story and using events or dialogues of characters in the present time. Flash-forward, on the other hand, is an interjected scene that takes the story forward in time. Flash-forwards are bound to happen in the story because it is showing you the future of the story, but foreshadowing is just hinting and predicting future events, so they may or may not happen.
hope this helps!
