The 1st televised debate in the US political history was between Mr John F Kennedy and his counterpart Mr Richard Nixon. The debate was keenly followed by voters across the United States and had a major electoral impact too.

The whole event was one of the watershed events in the history of US politics. The consequent presidential election saw record voter turnout and closely fought election with Mr Kennedy raining the last punch.

Mr Kennedy with 49.7% votes fared marginally better than Mr Nixon who received 49.5% votes. Later It was revealed that the debates influence more than 75% of the voters and marked a turning point in the history of mass media.
