The product of two consecutive numbers is 14 less than 10 times the smaller number. find each number
Helen [10]
The consecutive numbers are either 2 and 3, or 7 and 8..

x(x+1) = x^2 + x
x^2 + x = 10x-14

quadratic form of x^2 + x = 10x-14:
x^2 - 9x + 14 = 0

(x-2)(x-7) = 0

x = 2, 7

so 2 and 3, or 7 and 8 are the answers

Usimov [2.4K]
When geologists want to study an active earthquake fault, they often rely on a trenching study. ... They brace the walls, if needed, to prevent cave-ins, then they climb down into the trench and carefully map its walls, looking for signs of past earthquakes and ground movement.
