Make three inferences about General Zaroff. Provide an example from the text for each to explain how you know this.

English
1 answer:
Vsevolod [243]3 years ago
6 0

Answer:

Despite the barbaric intent of General Zaroff's desire to hunt human beings, he still displays a sense of honor and chivalry that he must have maintained from his military days. When he announces that he plans to hunt Rainsford that night, Rainsford wonders what he can expect if the impossible happens--if he wins.

His clothes essentially depict him as an aristocrat, someone of a higher social class than Rainsford.  He is very distinguished looking; we assume he might be Russian because of Ivan who is a Cossack (like a Russian cavalryman).

General Zaroff is so skilled at hunting that he no longer finds enjoyment in hunting simple game like deer or ducks because he finds it too easy. He has been hunting for an extensive amount of time and he likes the challenge of hunting game without instinct but with reason. Rainsford is also a very smart and skilled hunter which interests General Zaroff for some exciting game.

General Zaroff began hunting humans because he became bored with hunting animals. He claimed that he lost interest in hunting animals, and he eventually realized that the reason was that he had become such a great hunter that the animals never eluded him.  So as he found that hunting animals meant no challenge to him anymore, he interested in hunting humans.

In order to ensure the success of his plan, Montresor
sergeinik [125]

Answer:

Montresor plots his revenge upon Fortunato carefully, as he tells the reader in the story. He must "not only punish but punish with impunity;" yet Montresor also recognizes that his satisfaction will be complete only if the murder is undetected and he remains free of incarceration. First, Montresor chooses "the supreme madness of the carnival season" as the backdrop for his plan. He gives no clue to Fortunato that there is even a problem between the two men: Though Montresor claims Fortunato to be his sworn enemy, Fortunato does not seem aware of this, and Montresor continues to "smile in his face" whenever the two men meet. He eliminates the possibility of his own servants as possible witnesses by deliberately lying to them

What period of time was Walt Whitman influenced by? Give two specifics about this time. When you cite textual evidence
alexira [117]

Answer:

Whitman was influenced by the period involving the civil war and the entire period that passed before and after that war.

Explanation:

As you have not provided the text to which this question refers, it is impossible for it to be answered accurately, but I will try to help you in the best possible way.

Whitman was a humanist and he lived through the American Civil War period, which was a great inspiration for his work, mainly because this period stimulated humanist, social and economic issues, which made Whitman reflect strongly on his position in American society and how your work could express those positions.
