Homer Hickam from the movie "October Sky". He was a high school student in West Virginia who was inspired to take up rocketry by Sputnik (the first man-made satellite) launch. His sheer dedication towards designing his own homemade missiles helped him fight against all odds. The way he handles failures and how he doesn't let set backs from discouraging him, is worth appreciating. His journey from being a local coal mine worker's son to becoming a successful NASA engineer, personifies inspiration.
