Well, obviously the answer is 'Gregor transforming into an insect'. It doesn't seem real that a person could just turn into a bug, therefore that is the answer, it is surreal.

The last sentence is absolutely incorrect, I would say both "There are 1,000,000 people living in the city." and "There are one million people living in the city" are correct.
