Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a federal law that prohibits employers from discriminating against employees on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin and religion. Despite Title VII’s passage more than 50 years ago, discrimination in the workplace remains a serious problem.

It also protects you from retaliation if you choose to participate in an investigation, proceeding or hearing on behalf of a co-worker who you believe has had his or her rights violated under Title VII.
