Columbus invaded new territories seeking to revive the Christian belief and also to discover new commodities for trade and leisure. He was intrigued by their lifestyle which reflects a  very poor and unequipped side of life. He further elaborates on how they're almost like kids or just ignorant hillbillies without a taste for common sense.
