What challenge did both indentured servants and African Americans face during the early 1800s? (5 points)
dusya [7]

The correct answer is they had little opportunity to receive a formal education.

Indentured servants were individuals who were hired to work on a farm or plantation for 4-7 years. In return, this person would have their trip to American paid for and the opportunity to own a small amount of land after their service was completed. Slaves, on the other hand, were bought and sold like property.

Both indentured servants and slaves reported to their masters and spent almost all of their days on the farm/plantation. With this in mind, neither group of people had time for a formal education. Along with this, many states made it illegal to educate slaves. Educating the lower class could open their eyes to the corrupt system they were a part of.
