Why is it said the beatitudes promote values that are in direct contrast to what the world promote?

Answer

It is because world values promote the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, the arrogance of life, selfishness, and seeking material gain. These values contradict the teachings of Christ Jesus of becoming humble, selfless, and seekers of God and His righteousness.

Explanation

For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure (lust of the flesh), a craving for everything we see (lust of the eyes), and pride in our achievements and possessions (the arrogance of life). These are not from the Father but are from this world.

Matthew 5:3-11 (NLT)

The Beatitudes

3 “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him (poor in spirit) for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

4 God blesses those who mourn,

 for they will be comforted.

5 God blesses those who are humble,

for they will inherit the whole earth.

6 God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice,

 for they will be satisfied.

7 God blesses those who are merciful,

for they will be shown mercy.

8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure,

 for they will see God.

9 God blesses those who work for peace,

for they will be called the children of God.

10 God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right,

for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

11 “God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. 12 Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way.

Two difference between local measurement and standard measurement
aliya0001 [1]

Answer:

In antiquity, systems of measurement were defined locally: the different units might be defined independently according to the length of a king's thumb or the size of his foot, the length of stride, the length of arm, or maybe the weight of water in a keg of specific size, perhaps itself defined in hands and knuckles.

Systems of Measurement: there are two main systems of measurement in the world: the Metric (or decimal) system and the US standard system. ... The US Standard system uses units that have no predictable relationship to each other.

Explanation:

For example, there are 2 cups in a pint, but 4 quarts in a gallon.

Why would Stockton, the author, choose to leave out such a vital part of the story?
Lilit [14]

Answer:

He wanted people to be creative and discuss how they thought it should go.

Explanation:

Frank R. Stockton's short story "The Lady, or The Tiger?" revolves around the story of a princess and a commoner and how their romance was deemed unacceptable by the king. And in order to make sure they do not continue their romance, the king put the man to a test- to make a choice between two doors that will decide his fate. The irony is that none of the two doors lead to the princess.

But Stockton did not provide the climax of the story. He left the readers wondering what happens to the young man. We are not told what door he chooses- either the door that will bring forth the tiger and get him killed or the door that will lead to a beautiful lady who will become his wife. And by leaving the conclusion to the readers to imagine and think on their own, Stockton seemed to want the readers to be creative and create their own endings.

Thus, the correct answer is the third option.
