- "<em>The sniff of green leaves and dry leaves, and of the shore and dark-color’d sea-rocks, and of hay in the barn,/ The sound of the belch’d words of my voice loos’d to the eddies of the wind"</em>
In this quote, Whitman reflects Romantic thinking as he talks about the nature that surrounds him. Like most Romantic thinkers, Whitman finds a chance to reflect when surrounded by nature. Moreover, he finds a type of wisdom and inspiration in natural settings, and sees them as intrinsically connected to him.
- <em>"You shall possess the good of the earth and sun, (there are millions of suns left,)/ You shall no longer take things at second or third hand, nor look through the eyes of the dead, nor feed on the spectres in books"</em>
In these lines, Whitman refers to the "good of the earth and sun," to "the eyes of the dead," and "the spectres in books." All of these statements refers to cultural and traditional sources of inspiration and knowledge. A common trait among the Romantics was an interest in rediscovering such sources of knowledge.
- <em>"I celebrate myself, and sing myself,/ And what I assume you shall assume,/ For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you."</em>
A characteristic of Romantic literature is a focus on the author's inner world, inner feelings and personal experiences. In this poem, we see that Whitman mostly focuses on the feelings that exist within himself, and that make him reflect on his place in the world.

It was a cold weekend morning in November when my mom came in running into my room exclaiming “Hailey, I have some exciting news for you!” “Go away mom, it's too early for this! I yelled half asleep. “Look!” she said as she held her smartphone up with two little adorable kittens on it. Then I jumped out of my bed and my my mom and I got dressed out of our pajamas got in the car and then we started driving to the shelter.
On our way there we listened to some music and the gps too. It was a lot of stress and shock for my family and I because we had just lost our other cat G-G that my mom had for many years of her life. But along with the stress shock and fear came joy and happiness. When you're woken up with your mom telling you that you're going to adopt/own an animal you are excited for what is to come.

As we walked out of the car and into the old and rusty shelter I can hear meowing from inside and barking from next door. As we walk into the shelter I can hear a screech. “Don't let the cats out!” yelled a lady wearing a plaid. So my mom signs in and I go and sit on the couch, while two cats start climbing on my arms “Mom, look at these adorable kittens!” “Hailey, you know that we can’t afford more than one cat but you have been very responsible with your brothers and homework… so Yes!” then she walked away to go see how much it was for two cats.
The second that I heard that we were getting a cat I was super happy but then when I heard that we were getting two cats I was astonished. As w edrove back to our home I could hear them meowing the whole entire time and I felt so bad for them.
