The well-established traditions are hard to be changed over time. Generally they progressively evolve in the way that Christmas and Halloween has. The only way a tradition can be wiped out is, if a country is defeated by a different country and the new state forbids the tradition by making the tradition illegal. Humans are creatures of habit, so traditions become hard to break.
