briefly describe the similarities between the feudal economic structure of medieval europe and medieval japan
Alona [7]
How Japanese Castles are similar to European Castles
1.They had large and tall walls for protection
2. They often had moats around them to discourage the digging of tunnels
3. They had narrow and steep stairways to make assault difficult
4. They had portholes for guns and for arrows
5. They often had a main gate area that could be used as a trap
6. They almost always had concentric rings of walls to give them multiple layers of protection
7.They capitalized on terrain features - often the best placement was at the top of a hill or small mountain. This gave a very advantageous position and view

DIFFERENCES
Unlike European feudalism Japan’s feudalism system did not have a true pyramid form with the monarch presiding over the less important nobles.

First, the authority in Japan was much less centralized than it was in the nation-states of Europe. Even though most of the local aristocrats paid lip service to the emperor, the rugged terrain of Japan made it very difficult for the emperor to fully control the local aristocracy. Therefore the local aristocrats had much more power in Japan than they ever had in France, Britain, or any other European country.

Secondly, even though the lower nobility in Japan (the samurai) swore fealty to their local lords, the local lords didn’t give the samurai any land of their own. When the European nobility receives land in exchange for their military services, the samurai did not join a landowning hierarchy. Instead of that they were given an independent income from their local lord based upon what that lord’s lands produced.

In contrast, European knights usually had their own serfs to work the land the knights received from their lord. While a Japanese samurai might have had servants, these servants did not work the land the way they would have done in Europe.

Pasterurization and vaccination inventor
Bogdan [553]

Pasteurization is a process where certain packaged or non-packaged food such as milk or fruit are treated with mild heat. The goal of this process is to eliminate pathogens ( infectious agent or germ) and to extend the product's shelf life.

The inventor of pasteurization was the French scientist Luis Pasteur. In his research he demonstrated that thermal treatment would inactivate unwanted microorganisms in wine.

Vaccination is the application of antigenic material (vaccine) to stimulate the body's immune system and to develop an immunity to a pathogen (germ).

Smallpox was the first ever disease for which a vaccine was developed. It was invented in 1976 by the English physician Edward Jenner. Jenner was the first person to publish evidence that the vaccine was effective. The name vaccination derives from Latin vacca (cow), because it was derived from a virus affecting cows.

What did ismene hope to accomplish?
xz_007 [3.2K]

The Greeks believed in fate and divine force.Ismene wants to obey Creon's orders and tries to talk Antigone out of it.Antigone wants to give her brother a proper burial, she believes family is greater than law.

Ismene is Antigone Lite. She first puts in an appearance along with her sister at the end of Oedipus the King, and both girls seem to be symbolic of the legacy of shame left by Oedipus's mistakes. In Oedipus at Colonus, Ismene shows great loyalty to her father when she alerts him to the situation with Creon. She shows devotion once more when she returns with Antigone to Thebes. In Antigone, however, we see that Ismene's loyalty only extends so far. Though she agrees morally with Antigone’s decision to bury Polyneices, she is afraid to risk her own life.

Like her sister, Ismene seems to value family ties and the laws of the gods over the laws of man. However, she's just not gutsy enough to stand up for her beliefs. The courage to stand beside her sister does eventually come to Ismene. When Creon arrests both daughters of Oedipus, Ismene asks that she be executed alongside Antigone. Antigone, however, scorns Ismene's belated attempt at righteousness. At the urging of the Chorus, Creon eventually relents on executing Ismene. The girl ends the play with her life intact, but her self-worth in shreds.
