-2x²-x-1=0<br> Find the value of the discriminant
joja [24]

Hey there!

\large\boxed{-7}

The formula for the discriminant is represented by b²-4ac.

We need to identify the values for a, b, and c.

This equation is in general form, which is ax² + bx + c = 0.

So, a = -2, b = -1, and c = -1.

Plug the values into the formula.

(-1)²-4(-2)(-1)

Square.

1-4(-2)(-1)

Multiply.

1-4(2)

1-8

Subtract.

-7

The discriminant is -7.

This means there are no real solutions to the equation, because the discriminant is negative.

Hope this helps!
