El autor se refiere a la relación que existe entre la interpretación de las artes y el valor económico de las mismas, tomando en cuenta en el valor estético y artístico de una obra es relativo al valor económico que representa.

Y aunque el autor comenta que <em>"Mi propósito, sin embargo, no es emprender una interpretación económica de la historia de las artes...estas condiciones económicas están incluidas en instituciones y costumbres de vida, operan de modo efectivo porque su acción es inconsciente."</em>

Esto significa que de alguna manera, el arte lleva implícito un valor económico aunque no sea el propósito fundamental del autor de la obra artística, y de que este valor es relativo porque es variable según la interpretación que se haga de la obra.

El psicólogo y maestro estadunidense John Dewey (1859-1952) es considerado un innovador en la materia de educación, abanderado del concepto llamado "Escuela Activa" o "Escuela Experimental."

La temática planteada por Dewey fue buscar la participación activa del educando, poniendo énfasis en la actividad motriz y el desarrollo del conocimiento para fortalecer los sistemas  de aprendizaje.
