The slavery in America was a long time time debate. The blacks were used as slaves to handle most of the hard work in the continents.

The Wilmot proviso had it that any land that was going to be taken from Mexico would be slave free. The Wilmot proviso was unable to put off the problems of slavery for long in the country.
