<u>In the above given poem two poetic devices are used that are;</u>

  • Refrain
  • RefrainPersonification

Before the main answer I would like to explain what are these terms?

<h3>Refrain:</h3>

Refrain means when a line or a sub-sentence is used before starting a new stanza. When the line or sub-sentence is used more than one time, It can be perfectly called as Refrain.

<h3>Personification:</h3>

Personification means when the quality of humans is given to a non-living or non-human thing.

<h3>༒︎Note:</h3>
  • Here you can see in the 6th and 8th line rhyme scheme is used but we will not consider it because it is not used in the complete poem.

<em><u>Personification: (2nd and 4th line)</u></em>

My eyes don't tear: <u>Tear is a human quality which is given to a non-human thing i.e. Eye.</u>

My heart doesn't cry: <u>Same as second line, Here cry is a quality of human which is given to a non-humam i.e. heart.</u>

<em><u>R</u></em><em><u>e</u></em><em><u>f</u></em><em><u>r</u></em><em><u>a</u></em><em><u>i</u></em><em><u>n</u></em><em><u>:</u></em><em><u> </u></em><em><u>(</u></em><em><u> </u></em><em><u>3</u></em><em><u>r</u></em><em><u>d</u></em><em><u> </u></em><em><u>a</u></em><em><u>n</u></em><em><u>d</u></em><em><u> </u></em><em><u>7</u></em><em><u>t</u></em><em><u>h</u></em><em><u> </u></em><em><u>l</u></em><em><u>i</u></em><em><u>n</u></em><em><u>e</u></em><em><u>)</u></em>

Doesn't mean: <u>H</u><u>e</u><u>r</u><u>e</u><u> </u><u>a</u><u>f</u><u>t</u><u>e</u><u>r</u><u> </u><u>c</u><u>o</u><u>m</u><u>p</u><u>l</u><u>e</u><u>t</u><u>i</u><u>n</u><u>g</u><u> </u><u>t</u><u>h</u><u>e</u><u> </u><u>s</u><u>e</u><u>c</u><u>o</u><u>n</u><u>d</u><u> </u><u>s</u><u>t</u><u>a</u><u>n</u><u>z</u><u>a</u><u> </u><u>a</u><u>g</u><u>a</u><u>i</u><u>n</u><u> </u><u>"</u><u>D</u><u>o</u><u>e</u><u>s</u><u>n</u><u>'</u><u>t</u><u> </u><u>m</u><u>e</u><u>a</u><u>n</u><u>"</u><u> </u><u>i</u><u>s</u><u> </u><u>u</u><u>s</u><u>e</u><u>d</u><u> </u><u>t</u><u>h</u><u>a</u><u>t</u><u>'</u><u>s</u><u> </u><u>w</u><u>h</u><u>y</u><u> </u><u>w</u><u>e</u><u> </u><u>a</u><u>r</u><u>e</u><u> </u><u>c</u><u>o</u><u>n</u><u>s</u><u>i</u><u>d</u><u>e</u><u>r</u><u>i</u><u>n</u><u>g</u><u> </u><u>i</u><u>t</u><u> </u><u>i</u><u>n</u><u> </u><u>r</u><u>e</u><u>f</u><u>r</u><u>a</u><u>i</u><u>n</u><u>.</u>
