In this passage from Hamlet, act IV, scene VII, King Claudius tells Laertes why he is not taking action against Polonius’s murde
Kazeer [188]
These lines are correct:

<span>The other motive,
Why to a public count I might not go,
Is the great love the general gender bear him;
Who, dipping all his faults in their affection,
Work, like the spring that turneth wood to stone,
so that my arrows,
Too slightly timber'd for so loud a wind,
Would have reverted to my bow again,
But not where I have aim'd them

Here, Claudius is clearly saying that he cannot accuse Hamlet of anything because the people in Denmark love their prince, so even if he did try to accuse him, nobody would believe him anyway. This is why he doesn't want to accuse Hamlet of Polonious's murder like that, but rather reveal the secret in other ways.

What dramatic effect does Shakespeare create by pairing the emotions of love and hate in the first act of the play?
aliina [53]

Answer:

Love, hate and honour

Explanation:

There are many components of Shakespeare’s classic, ‘Romeo and Juliet’, which mainly consist of love, hate and honour. This is the story of the incessant love of two young people, which crosses the borders of family and convention. It encompasses love, hate and tons of emotion, tragically ending with the harsh reality of death.

There are many imperative events leading up to various other events that take place in this specific scene. Possibly the most important and the utmost obvious fact that the audience discern about is about the two families, The Capulets and The Montagues.

Is Dorian Gray a critique or endorsement on the aesthetic hedonism movement?
Kisachek [45]

Even though the author of Dorian Gray preached aestheticism as the ultimate goal of arts, his work does not converge to that conclusion.

Oscar Wilde, along with other artists belonging to the movement, claimed to believe art is done for art's sake. That, behind books, pictures and music, there shouldn't be a deeper meaning, a lesson to be taught and learned, any political positioning to defend or attack. Art was, thus, only supposed to be beautiful.

However, Wilde's character Dorian finds himself sinking in life for his lack of moral. Concerned only about his own youth and beauty, Dorian is incapable of loving and connecting to another human being. Consequently, everyone around him suffers and he becomes a dark and lonely soul, whose sins and real age are apparent in a picture of him painted by a friend.
