If those are the only options, then the coordinating conjunction must be but. Coordinating conjunctions are words that connect two clauses, phrases, or words by treating them equally - one is not dependent upon the other. If those two are clauses, they must be independent clauses that together form a compound sentence. Besides "but", coordinating conjunctions are "and" and "or".

The word defy and unequal in a sentence
katen-ka-za [31]

When utilizing words within a sentence, we must first recognize two things: their definition and the ways that they can be used. As such, when we have these elements, we can generate sentences that not only use them correctly, but through these sentences we can further understand the meaning of the words through context. Defy, as per the dictionary, means to disobey an order, or challenge someone or something and unequal means not being able, or not having the resources, to deal with someone or a situation, or also, a variation in size, shape or other characteristics that make two things differ and one be superior to the other.

As such, a good sentence to combine these two words could be thus: We have always been unequal to the task of dealing with corrupt people because we fear to defy those who we perceive have power and control over us.

Puerto Rico was Spanish (Europe) who used African slaves.

Food (as well as music) is a perfect analogy to describe the colonial history of any Latin American country. The food of Puerto Rico, like it´s music, will show the Spanish and the African influence on the traditional cuisine of Puerto Rico.

Note: when we think of Salsa music we say Cuba, but Puerto Rican musicians have played a tremendous important role in the devtelopment of salsa music, as anyone in the New York music scene could confirm.
