Stigmas are, by definition, very negative associations that are made to a person or a certain thing; while in Sociology, a master status means "a status that has exceptional importance for social identity, often shaping a person's entire life."
So stigmas can definetely become master status for some people, the ones that have been extremely criticized.
The stalemate in Korea left us in a position of limbo. We couldn't advance, as it would further aggravate the high tensions between the us and the Chinese (and the USSR). We also couldn't leave as this would make South Korea vulnerable and they would be easily conquered. We had to stay if only to help keep a watchful eye and the peace.
