A fast-growing town requires a new source of power. Because the town is located by a fast-flowing river, the town council votes

to construct a hydroelectric power plant. This requires a dam to be built. How might this activity affect the local watershed?
The hydroelectric plant will likely flood the area behind the dam that is constructed.
The hydroelectric plant will likely pollute the water flowing down the waterfall.
The hydroelectric plant will likely pollute the air above the waterfall, leading to acid rain.
The hydroelectric plant will likely quit operating in the summer when the river dries up.

Answer:

Answer: The hydroelectric plant will likely pollute the water flowing down the waterfall.

Hydropower dams degrade water quality along rivers. Water that flows downstream from the dams is depleted of oxygen, which harms many aquatic animals. The reservoirs above dams are susceptible to harmful algal blooms, and can leach toxic metals such as mercury from submerged soil

Explanation:

how does the building of a dam affect the environment?

Flooding and the destruction of surrounding habitat: Dammed rivers create a reservoir upstream from the dam, which spills out into the surrounding environments and floods ecosystems and habitats that once existed there. Such flooding can kill or displace many different organisms, including plants, wildlife, and humans.

Why japan became more reliant on railways rather than roadways
lorasvet [3.4K]
Railways are the most important means of passenger transportation in Japan, maintaining this status since the late nineteenth century. Government policy promoted railways as an efficient transportation system for a country that lacks fossil fuels and is nearly completely dependent on imports.
I hope this helps!!!!

The puzzle-like fit of the continents, similarity of rock types across continents, and glacial evidence all were pieces of evide
mote1985 [20]

Answer:

Wegener gave many evidence to the theory of plate tectonics another piece of evidence was the finding of fossils of reptiles in oceans and glossiperious fauna and the similarity of glaciers in all continents

Explanation:

 • Alfred Wegener is supposed to believe that the supercontinent named Pangaea consisting of northern continents and the southern continent i.e Gondwanaland consisting of southern continents were once the same.
 • Thus he gave evidence in the shape of puzzle-like fit of the continents as similarity of rocks found in the continent's of Africa and South America, as they were one earlier.
 • Further, he gave the supporting pieces of evidence as the glacier landmasses distributed were the same part earlier drifted away from the larger continent of Greenland.
 • The supporting evidence the put forth was the polar wandering forces that he called the flight from poles and drift under the impact of moons gravity and another evidence was the thin sheets or plate moved away due to the wind.

Why do otters love ice?
Sonja [21]

To survive, otters need clean water in a relatively special, undisturbed environment.

That, and their small numbers over a large area, made them very vulnerable to pollution, habitat destruction and historic unregulated fishing. Unlike most people, sea otters like to cool their feet. In fact, their ice consumption is so high that Den Blå Planet has decorated the otter's enclosure with its own ice machine, so they always have a cold treat close at hand.

From the Vancouver Aquarium: Sea otters usually catch hard-shelled food - clams, abalone, clams, crabs... If they are too hard to break with their teeth, they crush them with a rock or against a rock. This is what this sea otter (Elfin) does when it hits the ice on a rock.
