The code itself consisted of 282 regulations affecting the social and economic Affairs of the people. The epilogue, at the bottom of the stele, promised rewards to those who obey the laws and punishment to those who disobeyed. Hammurabi's code is important to us today because it provides much insight into Babylonian Society.
