Geometric abstraction had to do with the form of artwork that uses geometric forms or shapes. It's usually used by artists in order to indicate a particular thing or organize fragmented thoughts.

It should also be noted that artists use geometry to elicit a feeling or emotion in the viewer by using geometric shapes as symbolism to convey a particular idea.
