During this presidency, he vetoed an extraordinarily high amount of bills, one of which included the Nullification Bill and the Renewal of the National Bank. The Nullification Bill stated that if the state government did not agree with any law that a federal government passed, they had to right to ignore, or nullify it. This was leaning heavily on the original Articles of Confederation, which had trouble with unification between states. Because Jackson refused to renew the National Bank, the American economy suffered an economic recession (it lasted six months).
