• Reflecting on the memoir Night, what role do you think fear played in Elie’s life?

Considering Elie Wiesel's experiences, the interview with Oprah, and his memoir "Night", we can provide the following examples of personal opinions:

Reflecting on the memoir, I believe fear was crucial part of Elie's life. Fear of being mistreated, fear of dying, fear of remaining alive but losing someone he loved - all those fears were a constant while Elie was a prisoner at a concentration camp.

My opinion of his experiences is that they were deeply and unimaginably painful. No human being should ever have to suffer so much at the merciless hands of another human being.

Elie and the millions who were tortured and killed by the Nazis were           innocent people who just wanted to live their lives. Yet, they were met with cruelty beyond imagination.

His memoir and the interview impacted me in the sense that they made me reflect about how lucky I am to never have experienced such horrors. They also made me look up to Wiesel, who was able to live a normal life even after going through hell.

I believe it is important to study history and the details of the Holocaust so that we never forget what we are capable of. We must never allow this to happen again.

Elie Wiesel (1928-2016) was only fifteen years old when he was dragged to a concentration camp in Nazi Germany.

There, Elie saw and lived horrors regular people would never imagine possible in real life.

He saw other Jews being tortured and killed in several different, horrible ways. Elie himself was mistreated, beaten, humiliated, abused.

Yet, not only did he survive, but he became one of the most important and well-known advocates for peace in the world.

In 1986, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In his speech he condemns indifference, saying that, when we do nothing, we help the aggressors, never the victim.
