One of the powerful features of America's core document is that the document has been able to change with and been applied to changing times. As a "for instance", there is no way that the founders could possibly have conceived of the internet at the time of the founding and yet principles in the document are able to be applied daily by Federal judges to cases about the internet.

This has been done by applying key concepts from the Constitution to situations of the day. We no longer worry about the danger of "quartering troops" BUT that amendment does reveal something about privacy and thus can be applied to things like abortion and the internet.
