The Gilded Age describes a period in 1870s where there are gross materialism and enormous political corruption in the U.S. Sphere.

During the Gilded Age, various businessmen usually bribed the public officials at the all level and fraud/manipulation were massively used to influence elections.

During this period, the government tends to protect more the interests of business-owners than the farmers, Native Americans, workers etc

In the gubernatorial election of 1920, he have campaigned prominently for John M. Parker, and today Long is often credited with helping Parker to win in the northern Louisiana parishes. However, after Parker was elected to the gubernatorial office, the two became bitter rivals. This break was largely the result of Long having demanded that Parker declare the state's oil pipelines to be public utilities and Parker having refused to do so. In particular, Long was horrified and became furious when Parker allowed the oil companies led by the legal team of Standard Oil to assist in the writing of the state's severance tax laws-laws that decreed how much money corporations such as Standard Oil had to pay the state for the extraction of natural resources. Because the governor was willing to go along with companies like Standard Oil, Huey began calling Parker the chattel of the corporations. After butting heads, Parker eventually tried to have Huey ousted from his position on the Louisiana Railroad Commission in 1921, although he was unable to do so.

Patricians were the upper class of Ancient Rome. They claimed to be descendants of the families who founded Rome or who settled there shortly after it was founded. As a consequence of their antiquity in the Roman nation, as well as their status of being original from Rome and not from conquered or annexed peoples, the Patricians originally held most of the political and economic power in Ancient Rome. Thus, they practically controlled to their pleasure the decisions of the Senate, and they handled the appointments of the consuls and other positions of power. This was so until the outbreak of the Patrician-Plebeian War, which ended up granting equality to both social classes through Lex Hortensia in 287 BC.

For their part, the Plebeians were Roman citizens who had civil rights under Roman law, but who had no political power or strategic economic importance. Some of them owned land, inherited from their ancestors, but had no greater wealth than some businesses. They were the lowest free class in Ancient Rome, only above slaves and free non-citizens.

They were upset because the law forbade them from settling in the Ohio River Valley where there was fertile soil for farming, and the Native Americans weren't using it, plus many colonists had already bought land west of the Appalachians and now weren't allowed to move. Many colonists did not respect the Native Americans and did not want to preserve their land. The colonists just ignored the law and moved across the Appalachians.
