Katrina was disappointed because Dr. Girourd and Dr. Kutner (was, were) closing their practice.
kotegsom [21]

Answer:

Were

Explanation:

Since there are two people we are talking about, they were closing up practise. "Dr. Girourd and Dr Kutner was closing their practise" doesn't ring quite as well as if you were to say they *were* doing something.

Please write a summary of The Secret Garden full book don't give away the ending. Please put written answer
Anvisha [2.4K]

Answer:

See explanation for summary. If my summary does not answer your question, please keep in mind that I am doing my best. I did write this myself, and I am not using any outside sources whatsoever to write this.

I hope this helps!

Explanation:

In The Secret Garden, Mary Lennox is sent to live with her uncle, Archibald Craven, after a cholera outbreak kills her parents, whith whom she was living in India, although she rarely got the opportunity to see them.

Master Craven is still grieving the death of his wife, an event that occurs ten years prior to the start of the novel. Mistress Craven had a garden that Master Craven locks up after her death.

Mary, a curious young girl, wants desperately to find a way to enter the garden, and so she workes tirelessly to find something that may let her enter. She gets relatively far when she hears crying from a section of the mansion, which she has been told she may not enter.

However, Mary disregards these rules and finds Colin Craven, her uncle's son, who, just like his father, is a hunchback. Mary befriends Colin, and together they continue their search for a way to enter the secret garden.

Answer:

- The sign cautioned swimmers to stay within the designated swimming area–adverbial phrase.

- The lifeguards on the beach watched the swimmers carefully–adjectival phrase.

- Children and their parents built sandcastles with tall towers–adjectival phrase

- Seagulls soared over the water, searching for food–adjectival phrase.

Explanation:

- The sign cautioned swimmers to stay within the designated swimming area:

In this sentence, the word "within" acts as an adverbial phrase telling us where the swimmers were asked to stay. And the words "stay within the designated swimming area" is a prepositional phrase since it uses the preposition "within".

- The lifeguards on the beach watched the swimmers carefully:

Remember, adjectives are known for ending with 'ly', and the word "carefully" modifies the sentence, telling us how the lifeguards watched the swimmers.

- Children and their parents built sandcastles with tall towers:

This is the case because the adjective "tall" is used in the sentence to modify the word "tower", in a sense telling us the type of towers built.

- Seagulls soared over the water, searching for food:

The adjective "searching" is used to modify the entire sentence telling us what the Seagulls soared the waters for.
