The difference between the two was that <u>D. </u><u>Truman </u><u>believed in </u><u>avoiding nuclear war </u><u>if at all possible, while </u><u>Eisenhower </u><u>believed that nuclear war may be </u><u>necessary </u><u>to stop </u><u>communism </u><u>from spreading across Asia.</u>

<h3>Nuclear weapon usage by Presidents</h3>
  • Truman might have used the atomic bomb against Japan, but he was strongly against nuclear war.
  • Eisenhower was also against nuclear war, but made it clear that he would use nuclear weapons if he needed to in East Asia.

In conclusion, Truman wanted to avoid nuclear war after the bombings of Japan but Eisenhower threatened to use nuclear warfare to stop communism in East Asia.
