Wow! You now know so much about Peru! Your friend Jordan, however, knows nothing about it. In a few months, his family is going

on a
tour of Spanish-speaking countries, including Peru and other South American countries. He has asked you to help him learn more
about those places before his trip. His first trip is to Peru.
Write Jordan a three-paragraph letter (4-6 sentences per paragraph) in English, and compare Peruvian culture and American culture,
especially in terms of foods, sports, transportation, population, and demographics. How is your culture similar to Peruvian culture? How is
it different? Use a lot of details to help Jordan prepare for the trip, and have fun! You can use the CultureGram link to get ideas and
information.
Before you write, take notes on these questions to help you think of what to tell Jordan

The culture of the United States is very different from that of the countries of South America because its history is different. After all, the United States was a British colony and Peru a Spanish colony.

What is Peru?

Peru is a country located in western South America that limits with:

 • Colombia
 • Brazil
 • Bolivia
 • Chile
 • Ecuador
 • Pacific Ocean

It is a very geographically diverse country because it has landscapes such as:

 • Valleys
 • Plateaus
 • High peaks of the Andes
 • Desert coast
 • Amazon

Cultural differences between Peru and the United States

In terms of culture, Peru is very different from the United States because during the process of discovery, conquest and Spanish colonization, the indigenous communities were not exterminated as they did in the United States.

This is an important factor because the current culture of Peru is based on pre-Hispanic indigenous customs even though they adopted Spanish customs such as the Catholic religion and the Spanish language. Whereas in the United States the majority of people are Protestant Christians and adopted English as their official language.

Differences in food

Regarding food, Peru stands out for the variety of dishes in the coastal areas, sea food is the most typical while in the mountainous areas there are other types of dishes based on the products grown there such as potatoes and corn. Finally, in the Amazon region the gastronomy includes fruits and river fish that are obtained only in this region.

Differences in sport

In Peru, the sport with the most followers is soccer, there are many soccer teams and the culture shows a marked fanaticism for this sport. While in the United States the most popular sports are baseball and basketball.

Differences in transportation

In transportation Peru has different airports that receive international visitors, it also has public transportation systems of buses and taxis and offers rail transportation to visitors to Machu Pichu. In the United States there are these same means of transportation, although some cities have subways.

Differences in the population

The populations of the United States and Peru are very different. In Peru people are mestizo due to the mixture of races that occurred during the colony, many of them have African descent. While in the United States the majority of the population is of direct British descent, although there are also minority groups of African Americans and other cultures of the world.

Compare and contrast the styles of houses in Puerto Rico and the United States (U.S.).
Alexeev081 [22]

For one United states have more of a roman architecture... Most American homes have columns.

For Puerto Rico they have a Cuban architecture, most houses are made with brick as well with a tiled roofing. Most Puerto Rican use have these gates all around the house on there windows even door which add to the architecture

for United states we have roman architecture every where to the fountains to the marble we use for our counters. As well as United states have a varties of architecture.

As of Puerto Rico since it's A small island its only have its own personal architecture instead of many.

United states have Pre-clumbianand colonial architecture and diffrent cultures mixed together.

Puerto Rico has narrow, winding, cobblestone roads are reminiscent of Andalusia, South of Spain.

Hope this helps a bit.....
