The correct answer is C. Studying the Election Results map of 1932, it can be deduced that the Great Depression caused voters to want to change national leadership.

The US presidential election of 1932 marked the end of the administration of Herbert Hoover and the Republican Party, which had ruled the country since the 1920 elections. The Great Depression generated after the Crash of 29 was the event that influenced most of the decisions of American voters.

Given the seriousness of the economic disaster and the absence of government mechanisms to get out of the difficult situation, the administration of President Herbert Hoover failed to respond to this serious crisis, which greatly reduced the popularity of President Hoover and the Republican Party as of year 1930. Both Hoover (elected President in November 1928) and his economic advisers seriously considered that the economic difficulties of the United States responded to a temporary crisis where the federal government could not intervene decisively, but let the financial market participants themselves solve the problems.

Hoover's insistence on considering the Great Depression as a temporary difficulty clashed harshly with reality, while the national economy deteriorated every year, showing no signs of improvement. In turn, the steady increase in unemployment and the unstoppable decline in the standard of living of the Americans undermined the confidence of the population in government leaders, which meant that throughout the 1930-1932 period the Republican Party clearly appreciated that his chances of remaining in the government after the elections of 1932 were very few.

Roosevelt's triumph was overwhelming, winning even in states that had traditionally voted for the Republican Party. Hoover was defeated the popular vote with a difference of 17.7%, the biggest difference against obtained by a president who is going to re-election in the United States. The electoral result allowed Roosevelt to dominate the Senate and the House of Representatives in a comfortable manner at the beginning of his term, greatly facilitating the implementation of the New Deal he had launched as a campaign promise.
