Write the standard form of the line that passes through (-1,-3) and (2,1).
kobusy [5.1K]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

\mathrm{Line\:passing\:through\:}\left(-1,\:-3\right)\mathrm{,\:}\left(2,\:1\right)\\\\\mathrm{Find\:the\:line\:}\\\mathbf{y=mx+b}\mathrm{\:passing\:through\:}\left(-1,\:-3\right)\mathrm{,\:}\left(2,\:1\right)\\\\\mathrm{Compute\:the\:slope\:}\left(-1,\:-3\right),\:\left(2,\:1\right):\quad \\m=\frac{4}{3}\\\mathrm{Slope}=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}\\\\\left(x_1,\:y_1\right)=\left(-1,\:-3\right),\:\left(x_2,\:y_2\right)\\\left\\

OUT OF 32 STUDENTS IN A CLASS, 5 SAID THEY RIDE THEIR BIKES TO SCHOOL.  BASED ON THESE RESULTS, HOW MANY OF THE 800 STUDENTS IN
svet-max [94.6K]
Let, the total number of students in school that ride the bike to school be "x"
Now,
Using ratio and proportion, we get,
\frac{5}{32} = \frac{x}{800}

\frac{5}{32}*800 = \frac{x}{800} *800

\frac{4000}{32} =x

125 =x

x=125

So, out of 800 students, 125 ride their bike to school.

Consider the quadratic equation x2 + 2x - 35 = 0. Solve by factoring and using the zero-product property.
Morgarella [4.7K]

Answer:

x = -7

x = 5

Step-by-step explanation:

The standard form of quadratic equations is

Ax^2 + Bx + C = 0

The factors need to multiply together to be C and add together to be B.

The two numbers that will multiply together to be -35 and add together to be 2 are -5 & 7.

The factor pairs are (x+7)(x-5). Zero product property means we set each of those factor pairs = 0 and solve.

x + 7 = 0

-7 -7 Subtract 7 from each side to solve

x = -7

x - 5 = 0

+5 +5 Add 5 to each side to solve

x = 5
