Macbeth has to see his wife die, which is an emotional moment for him that he deserves for putting Macduff through the same. Then, he has to discover in the middle of a battle that he thinks he cannot lose that the witches' prophecies might not have told him the whole story. Discovering that Macduff is not of woman born and can definitely kill him is a blow to his psyche that shakes and rattles him to the core, leading to his defeat.
