As an uncoordinated, unathletic, glasses-wearing bookworm, I wasn't the typical winner of the Physical Education Award at my mid

dle school. In fact, I'd bet I'm the only person to win that trophy not for any type of athletic excellence, but for spearheading a resistance movement in the school gymnasium. It's been fifteen years since eighth-grade graduation, but I still attribute my fight for Phys. Ed fairness as what spurred me to become the passionate proponent of social change I am as an adult. It was an event my parents affectionately call "The Gym Class Rebellion."
