Tropical forests, including evergreen rainforests, cloud forests, seasonal deciduous forests and mangrove forests, have the highest biodiversity of all terrestrial biomes. Tropical rainforests, in particular, cover less than 7 percent of the Earth’s surface but harbor an estimated half of all existing plant and animal species. A small plot can yield hundreds of tree species – as many as all North American temperate and boreal forests combined -- and one reserve in Peru has more than 1,200 different butterflies. Dry tropical forests contain some of the same species as rainforests but fewer species overall. Among the major temperate forest types (temperate coniferous, rainforest, deciduous and mixed forests), temperate deciduous and mixed forests -- which include both deciduous and coniferous species -- have the highest biodiversity. Some temperate coniferous forests consist of only a few tree species, but the chatter and songs of great varieties of birds often fill their borders.( from the science book online )

What was the significance of Galileo observation of the four Medicean star near Jupiter
miv72 [106K]

Answer: He later observed a fourth star near the planet with the same unusual behavior. By Jan. 15, Galileo correctly concluded that they were not stars at all but moons orbiting around Jupiter, providing strong evidence for the Copernican theory that most celestial objects did not revolve around the Earth.

In the trp operon, attenuation occurs through the recognition of two tryptophan codons in the leader sequence. what would happen
Sati [7]
If a lot of tryptophan is present, the operon will be repressed.
Under intermediate amounts of tryptophan, the change to stop codons would cause the ribosome to stall and therefore would mimic as if there were no tryptophan present.
If no tryptophan present, the operon would be maximally expressed.

a - True. The ribosome would always be stalled in the leader sequence - so this wouldn't matter. However, the operon would still be transcribed because the repressor would be active (remember Trp operon is controlled both by attenuation and repression). True as long as there's not much tryptophan to activate the repressor!
b- True - With no tryptophan the repressor isn't engaged and the ribosome is stalled in the leader sequence.
c- Matters about how much tryptophan is available. So True if there's lots of tryptophan available.
d- I would choose this one as all of the above could be true depending on the levels of tryptophan.

Which tissue will most likely be found lining organs where substances have to easily diffuse across, such as the intestines and
Svetradugi [14.3K]

Epithelial tissue will most likely be found lining organs where substances have to easily diffuse across, such as the intestines and the lungs.

What are tissues?

Tissues may be defined as the group of similar cells that combine together to form similar functions. Four main types of tissues are epithelial tissue, connective tissue, muscle tissue and nervous tissue.

Epithelial tissue are presents on the surface, body lining and lining of mouth and internal organs.

The cells of epithelial tissue are one layer thick only. This means epithelial tissue that have the function of absorption are usually thick and has a large surface area that increases the rate of absorption.

Thus, Epithelial tissue is the answer.
