*A Governor*- colonial governors enforced laws, appointed administrators and judges, also served as commander-in-chief over their own territory and held the veto power. *The Council of Advisors*- was the upper house of legislature, approving executive proceedings, and in most cases, colonies gave them power administered by a supreme court. *Elected Assembly*- assemblies were the avenue citizens used for political demands.The assembly was the only part of the legislature that could pass atxes.
Dorothea Dix promoted and established the Asylum Movement, where mental institutions where created and health and hygiene in prisons was improved. This came after Dorothea visited and documented the treatment of prisoners and the living conditions within the prisons, both public and private. When she released her findings it shocked the general public, which lead to old hospitals being redesigned and repurposed for the use of mental facilities. The hospitals were built according to Dorothea's designs and with her guidance, there is now a widespread movement to reform the treatment of the mentally ill.
The main way in which the concepts of racism and social Darwinism relate to imperialism is that they were used by colonizers to justify their actions, especially in places like Africa, where they argued that because the Africans were so "behind" the Europeans, they were allowed to impose their will.
