Usually due to not paying workers enough, especially using workers in developing and poor countries which are desperate and will do work for very little. Big companies can sell cheap clothes but still make a huge profit from paying workers little.

The garment industry is introducing cheap and easy to make synthetic materials rather than processing natural occurring materials because it takes more time and more labor and therefore they must pay workers more to create the same amount of clothes.
