My reason is that although I may be under their control Russia at the time was a very confident and strong country. This also meant rulers of Russia would be very proud. If I am very proud then why would I ever give tribute to people who have conquered my land and taken over my people. While this may not have been the smartest of ideas this was the way Russia was at the time and did not bow to anyone.

Since 1862, no Senator has been expelled, though there were multiple efforts over the course of time but never were they successful.  In 1797 a Senator was expelled for the charges of treason and then in 1861-62 fourteen more met the same fate for joining and helping <span>Confederacy in the Civil War.
