2x+6y=7 3x+9y=1 eliminacion

Answer:

x=1/3 y=19/18

Step-by-step explanation:

you want to use elimination so you need the x or ys to have the same value, in this case x is easier to make do that so we choose to eliminate x by multiplying the equations to get the same coefficient in front of both xs.

3(2x+6y=7)

<u>2(3x+9y=1)</u>

6x+36y=21

<u>- (6x+18y=2)</u>   then subtract to be left with just ys and you get

18y=19            next divide by 18

y=19/18          plug in for y to one of the original equations (I did the first one) in order to solve for x

2x+6(19/18)=7   simplify (6 and 18 reduced so that it is 19/3)

2x+19/3=7        -19/3 on both sides

2x=7-19/3       make a common denominator

2x=21/3 -19/3   simplify like terms

2x=2/3           divide by 2 which is the same as multiplying by 1/2

x=(2/3)(1/2) then the 2s cancel and you get

x=1/3

Hope this helps! :)

<h2>Evaluating Composite Functions</h2><h3>Answer:</h3>

w(f(m(2))) = 593

<h3>Step-by-step explanation:</h3>

We can write how w(f(m(x))) will be defined but that's too much work and it's only useful when we are evaluating w(f(m(x))) with many inputs.

First let's solve for m(2) first. As you read through this answer, you'll get the idea of what I'm doing.

Given:

m(x) = -4x +1

Solving for m(2):

m(2) = -4(2) +1 \\ m(2) = -8 +1 \\ m(2) = -7

Now we can solve for f(m(2)), since m(2) = -7, f(m(2)) = f(-7).

Given:

f(x)=3x-1

Solving for f(-7):

f(-7)=3(-7)-1 \\ f(-7) = -21 -1 \\ f(-7) = -22

Now we are can solve for w(-22). By now you should get the idea why w(f(m(2))) = w(-22).

Given:

w(x) = x^2 -5x -1

Solving for w(-22):

w(-22) = (-22)^2 -5(-22) -1 \\ w(-22) = 484 -5(-22) -1 \\ w(-22) = 484 +110 -1 \\ w(-22) = 593

Select the correct answer from each drop-down menu. A parabola is given by the equation y = x2 − 2x − 3. The directrix of the pa
choli [55]

Answer:

Part 1) The directrix of the parabola is y=-4.25

Part 2) The focus of the parabola is F(1,-3.75)

Step-by-step explanation:

we have

y=x^{2}-2x-3

This is a vertical parabola open upward

we know that

If a parabola has a vertical axis, the standard form of the equation of the parabola is

(x - h)^{2}=4p(y - k)

where

p≠ 0

The vertex of this parabola is at (h, k).

The focus is at (h, k + p).

The directrix is the line y = k - p.

The axis is the line x = h.

step 1

Convert the equation of the parabola in standard form

y=x^{2}-2x-3

y+3=x^{2}-2x

y+3+1=x^{2}-2x+1

y+4=x^{2}-2x+1

y+4=(x-1)^{2}

so

(x-1)^{2}=(y+4) ----> equation in standard form

The vertex is the point (1,-4)

4p=1 ------> p=1/4

step 2

Find the directrix of the parabola

The directrix is the line y = k - p

we have

k=-4

p=1/4

substitute the values

y = k - p

y=-4-(1/4)=-17/4

y=-4.25

step 3

Find the focus of the parabola

we know that

The focus is at (h, k + p).

we have

h=1

k=-4

p=1/4

substitute

F(1,-4+1/4)

F(1,-3.75)
