It can be seen that both Charles Dickens and James Joyce included dialogues in their stories as it shows the personality, emotions, and actions of the character.

A character’s word can tell us much about the character’s cultural background, emotional, and psychological state.

Oliver Twist is about a starving boy being treated unfairly. while A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is about a sad boy being annoyed, and bullied.

The stories help us illustrate how dialogues are important in stories. Charles Dickens’ use of dialogue reveals Oliver’s courage and resiliency at the orphanage.
