"The Lottery" is a short story written by Shirley Jackson, first published in the June 26, 1948, issue of The New Yorker. The story describes a fictional small town which observes an annual rite known as "the lottery", in which a member of the community is selected by chance. The world of Shirley Jackson is eerie and unforgettable. It is a place where things are not what they seem; even on a day that is sunny and clear, with the fresh warmth of a full summer day, there is the threat of darkness looming, of things taking a turn for the worse. -- Introduction

With tradition being the main theme of the short story “The Lottery” it provides the reader with an idea of how the small town has been running for years and will continue to do so. -- Thesis

Which of these are true of both "Why does Earth have seasons?" and "Persephone and the seasons"? Circle all that apply.
Misha Larkins [42]

Answer:

D). Both discuss four seasons -winter, spring, summer, and fall.

F). Both give readers an idea of people's beliefs about seasons in different time periods.

Explanation:

The options D and F assert the true statements regarding 'Why does Earth have Seasons' and 'Persephone and the Seasons.' They correctly state that both the texts narrate four distinct seasons with each having its own characteristics and they both inform the readers about the common faith among people regarding seasons in distinct periods of time. For example, Persephone, the goddess of nature, was believed to be with different people in various seasons('taking the side of Demeter in the Summer season and Spring season while supported Hades in the autumn and the winter').

Doss [256]

Answer:

The correct answer is b. In any crowd, people have many different motivations.

Explanation:

A crwod is a group of people, not necessarily a big group of people who are gathered, These people are different, they can come from different parts, they can different characertisitics, but the most important about the crowds id that the citizens or people who are part of the crowd do not lose their individuality. For that reason in this example where some people are listening and some other are arguing, we can see although they are part of the same crowd, each one of them has different motivations and they have not lost their individuality.
