Inside the passage from "No Gumption", we see a key theme that was used to override another belief. The first belief, as seen through the lens of the main character, was a "despised" theme of, "<em>If at first you don't succeed, try, try again</em>". However, in the coming days, both learn that there are more than one way in life, as seen in the bottom, in which the theme became "<em>If one choice doesn't work, another may</em>". As seen in the story, the author decided to pursue his own path, and with fruition, the mother also approved of the way.
