The correct answer is C) Crittenden Compromise.

The Crittenden Compromise was the last attempt at compromise before Southern secession.

In the difficult times before the beginning of the American Civil War, some Congressmen made a las effort to pass some legislation that prevented the imminent armed conflict between the northern states and the southern states. It was John Crittenden, Kentucky Senator, who in the last days of 1867 proposed the Crittenden Compromise. However, although it had some support in the South, President Abraham Lincoln did not like the idea and many northern states did not support the compromise.

What word would be used to describe the North’s economy?
blsea [12.9K]

Answer:

The economy of the North was mostly determined by industrialism because of its wealth

Explanation:

The economy of the North was mixed, but industrialism was dominant because of its wealth. If a farmer or craftsman had products for sale, the populations of the factory towns and industrial cities comprised his market. If a farmer or craftsman borrowed money, he probably borrowed it from the banking industry.

The northern economy relied on manufacturing and the agricultural southern economy depended on the production of cotton.

To protect its industries from foreign competition, the North favored high tariffs, or taxes on goods coming in from other countries. The growth of trade, manufacturing and transportation brought many changes to cities in the North. Cities took on an increasingly important role in determining the culture of the North.

The significance of the Battle of Antietam relative to the Emancipation Proclamation was that The Union victory gave Lincoln the strength and support needed for the issuance of the proclamation.

Historians consider the Battle of Antietam as the bloodiest confrontation day of the Civil War. The Union Army impeded the troops of General Robert E. Lee to invade the north. With the victory of the Union Army over the Confederates, President Abraham Lincoln felt confident enough to write the Emancipation Proclamation that freed slaves in the territories of the south. The preliminary  Emancipation Proclamation was issued on September 22, 1862.
