The issue that divided them the most was the issue of a strong federal government or state rights. The Federalists wanted a strong central government. However the Republicans wanted more state sovereignty.

Overall, it makes things better because a MDC (More developed county) usually has more food, technology, etc and a LDC (Less developed country) is usually in more poverty + etc.
